Embracing Change: The Power of MOMumental Moments

Change is often seen as a disruptor, something that throws us off balance and challenges our status quo. But I’ve found that change, in all its forms, is one of the most powerful catalysts for growth and self-discovery. Throughout my almost 2 decades in start-ups on both American coasts, you might imagine that change has been my constant companion. It's been in those MOMumental moments of transition where I’ve found the greatest opportunities for innovation, leadership, and resilience.

Navigating Major Changes: My Journey with Business Acquisitions and Fundraising

Change became a defining element of my professional journey when I experienced my first start-up acquisition by a public company. At the time, it felt like a daunting task—an intricate dance of negotiations, financial scrutiny, and cultural integration. I was faced with countless questions: How do we merge two distinct organizational cultures? How do we ensure transparency and trust throughout the process? How do we maintain momentum while adapting to a new landscape?

Instead of being overwhelmed, I saw this as a MOMumental moment to grow both personally and professionally. I approached the challenge with a strategic mindset, focusing on clear communication, thorough due diligence, and an unwavering commitment to the people involved. I realized that successful acquisitions are not just about the financials but also about understanding and aligning with the values and goals of the people and teams that make the business thrive.

This experience taught me the importance of flexibility, open-mindedness, and empathy. I had to adapt quickly to new information, adjust our strategy as needed, and remain focused on the long-term vision while managing the day-to-day complexities. Through this process, I developed a deeper understanding of the human side of business, and it became clear that change—when navigated with care and strategy—can lead to incredible growth and opportunity.

Embracing Change as a Catalyst for Growth

Reflecting on this experience, I realized that every MOMumental moment of change has offered a chance to refine my approach, learn something new, and push my limits. It has been through these challenges that I have honed my expertise in fundraising, organizational culture, and business growth. Whether leading a new team, navigating a complex acquisition or securing funding in a competitive market, embracing change has allowed me to think creatively and act decisively.

This mindset shift—from fearing change to embracing it—has been crucial not only for my personal development but also for my role as a leader. By modeling a positive, adaptable approach to change, I’ve been able to inspire my team to see change as a pathway to success rather than a roadblock.

Support and Advocacy: Adapting to Change as Women in Business

Adapting to change is especially vital for women, particularly moms in business, who often face unique challenges in their professional journeys. As moms and co-parenting women, we juggle multiple roles and responsibilities daily, and our capacity to adapt can make all the difference in how we thrive.

Here are some actionable strategies I’ve found helpful in navigating change, which I hope can serve as a guide for others:

  1. Cultivate a Growth Mindset: See every challenge as an opportunity to learn and grow. Remind yourself that change is not a setback but a step forward in your journey.

  2. Build a Support Network: Surround yourself with people who uplift and challenge you. Whether it's a mentor, a peer group, or a supportive community of like-minded moms, having allies can make navigating change much easier.

  3. Stay Grounded in Your Values: In moments of change, it’s easy to feel lost or overwhelmed. Revisit your core values and use them as a compass to guide your decisions and actions.

  4. Prioritize Self-Care: Change can be exhausting. Ensure you’re taking care of your mental and physical health. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s essential.

  5. Be Open to Feedback: Change often requires us to see things from new perspectives. Don’t be afraid to seek out feedback and learn from others.

Embracing Change for MOMumental Growth

Embracing change has been one of the most empowering aspects of my career and personal life. It has allowed me to grow, lead, and make a meaningful impact at home and in my career. I encourage all women—whether you're an entrepreneur, a mom, or a leader—to embrace change as a powerful force for growth and opportunity.

I know that I’m not alone in facing the challenges and opportunities that come with change. I’ve seen countless women—moms, entrepreneurs, and business leaders—navigate their own MOMumental moments. Whether it’s returning to the workforce after a break, launching a new venture, or managing a significant life transition, every woman’s journey with change is unique and powerful.
